Zum Ars Electronica Festival 2017 ist die Stadt des Künstlerkollektivs Time’s Up “Turnton Docklands” im Lentos Kunstmuseum eingezogen. (Artikel lesen) In diesem Sommer bespielt sie mit dem “Cabinet of Futures” ein Stockwerk vom Gemeindehaus “St Joseph the Worker Parish Centre” in Birkirkara. Die kleine Stadt ist auf Malta und ein Venue des Kulturhaupstadtjahres “Valetta 2018”.

Ein Teil der Stadt ist die illustrierte Medusa Bar, in der Hörspiele verschiedener Autor*innen vom Leben in der Stadt im Jahr 2047 erzählen. Unter anderen ein Hörstück vom Oberösterreichischen Autor Stephan Roiss, Preisträger vom Leipziger Hörspielsommer.

Das Artikelfoto ist ein schöner Zufall beim Arbeiten an der Wandgestaltung. Die Zeichnungen projiziere ich mit dem Beamer vielfach vergrößert an die Wände. Geht dann der Bildschirmschoner an, schwebt der McFlurry über die Quallen. Voll schön wenn Analog und Digital sich so gut treffen.

Während der Ausstellung macht Time’s Up Workshops, in denen über die Zukünfte nachgedacht wird. “Futuring Exercises – Radical & Circular”. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos und ohne Vorwissen möglich.

Be engaged in developing more in-depth alternative future scenarios in correlation with possible futures of waste-prevention and recycling. Be guided through a process of developing artefacts for experiential futures.

Cabinet of Futures – Exhibition

“The Cabinet of Futures is an exploration of a small European coastal city as it may develop in the next few decades. With ocean ecosystem collapse apparent, society reacts by implementing a number of utopic moments. The exhibition invites the audience to come in, explore the city, get lost in the bar and read the paper while listening to the locals talking about everyday life in a possible futures.” Time’s Up

“Over the course of their stay on the Maltese Islands, this radical team have brought internationally renowned futurists, local experts and everyday citizens together through communal workshops; during these creative meetings, participants have shared imaginative scenarios, dreams and concerns that explore diverse visions of the local future.The year 2018 sees people’s ideas come to life through the resulting site-specific exhibition, Cabinet of Futures. This immersive, walk-through exhibition creates a ‘proto-scientific’ laboratory atmosphere, inviting local individuals and communities to add their own touch to the scenario. With constant creative exchange from all walks of life, the hypothetical futures presented become sites that are continuously evolving into richer and ever-more tangible worlds.” Valletta 2018
